Sana Kamal, MBBS, is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in treating adults with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, substance use disorder, post-traumatic stress disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, and other psychiatric illnesses.
She has a particular interest in caring for patients with serious mental illness who are resistant to regular and conventional treatment, as well as patients with chronic medical conditions.
“My work with patients is a partnership. I strive to understand each as an individual and personalize treatment plans to facilitate healing,” Kamal says.
“I am compassionate and make every effort to ensure a safe, judgement-free, and empathic environment during treatment.”
Born and raised in Pakistan, Kamal received her MBBS degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan before moving to the U.S. in 2010. She completed residency training at St. Elizabeths psychiatric hospital in Washington D.C., where she was chief resident. Kamal has cared for patients in a variety of settings, including outpatient facilities, urgent care and crisis centers. She joined the UVA Health team in summer 2023.
