Sarah B Pumphrey, MD
Pediatrics
Bio & Overview
Sarah Pumphrey, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician who provides primary care at Augusta Pediatrics in Fishersville.
“I enjoy the full range of general pediatrics,” she says. “It is a privilege to be part of families’ lives from their child’s birth through early adulthood. I am especially interested in wellness and prevention as well as early childhood literacy.”
She adds, “I work to keep an open mind in all of my encounters, and I listen to parents as they know their children best. All children have unique strengths and challenges, and I value the opportunity to help families empower their children to be resilient, strong, and healthy.”
Pumphrey was born in Charlottesville and grew up in an old family home in Caroline County, Virginia. “I attended college at Brown University in Rhode Island and then, missing Virginia, returned to medical school at UVA,” she shares.
She completed her residency training at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. Before coming home to Virginia, Dr. Pumphrey worked for a year in the emergency room at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. “Becoming a physician gave me the opportunity to help families during critical times in their lives, both positive and negative,” she says.
“I value the educational aspect of primary care. I cherish the long-term relationships I am able to form in primary care pediatrics and I love watching kids grow up and turn into their own unique selves.” She adds, “I have been at Augusta Pediatrics for my entire career, since finishing my training in 2008. I serve as co-lead physician at the practice. I also spend some time teaching resident physicians.”
Pumphrey lives in Fishersville with her husband and two children. “I love spending time with my family and cheering on my own kids at various activities and events. In my spare time, I enjoy being outside to hike, garden, and paddle board. I love to read.”
