Highlights
Orthopedic Surgeon Seth Yarboro, MD
I'm Seth Yarboro, I'm an orthopedic surgeon at UVA. Within the trauma division, we take care of a lot of fractures from the pelvis and lower extremities, shoulder and upper extremity fractures, as well as take care of problems that result from fractures such as bones that heal poorly or heal in poor alignment. The joke is that everybody that goes into orthopedics had some orthopedic injuries of their own. I certainly had that. I had the opportunity to play football growing up, and had a lot of friends who had injuries that were positively impacted by orthopedics as well. I see a lot of patients who are recently injured, some that were injured a little further in the past and so, always try to review the injury so that I can understand fully what happened. There's a physical examination, because there's a lot of times we can gain information about the injury from that, that help guide treatment. And then we would review all the options, whether those are non-surgical, surgical, and a lot of that really depends on the nature of the injury. I'm passionate about trying to figure out ways that we can optimize the outcomes for all the specific problems we see within orthopedic trauma. Really trying to sort out at every point in the entire process things that we can do to give them the very best chance for an ideal outcome.
