Highlights
Dr. Shiv Khandelwal profile video
My name is Shiv Khandelwal. I'm an attending physician in the UVA Department of Radiation Oncology. I specialize in doing radiation therapy, mostly for cancer. There are occasionally things that we treat that are non-cancer, but I treat all types of cancer. When a new patient comes to me for an initial visit, we'll first evaluate them, do a history and physical, talk about what their disease process is, go through their imaging with them. I'm passionate about patient care, about educating my patients about what their options are, what the goals of their treatment are, what the process that they're going to go through in terms of taking treatment, if they opt to proceed with treatment. I do try to learn a little bit about my patients, you know, what sort of support system they have, what interests them. I just really enjoy talking with patients. At UVA, we have excellent collaboration amongst, not only all the different specialists that may be involved in managing cancer patients, but their primary care providers. Within our radiation oncology team, we have excellent collaboration between the nursing staff, the therapists that actually treat patients. We really just have an outstanding team of collaborators at UVA.
