Stephen R Collins, MD

Dr. Collins is a Virginia native and a graduate of The College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia School of Medicine.  After completing an internship at Yale New-Haven Hospital, he returned to University of Virginia for his anesthesiology residency with specialty training in liver transplantation. 

Dr. Collins is a board-certified anesthesiologist and joined the faculty in 2010.  His clinical practice focuses on patients needing anesthesia for general surgery, vascular surgery, and liver transplantation.  He serves as Associate Residency Program Director and has a passion for teaching and education.  While on faculty, he has been awarded the annual resident Faculty Teaching Award three times, the GME Master Educator Award, and is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Educators.  He serves as a national board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.  He also serves on the University of Virginia School of Medicine Admissions Committee. 

Dr. Collins lives with his wife – a practicing endocrinologist – and their two daughters in Charlottesville.  He spends his time outside of work enjoying time with them immensely, fielding endless questions by his older daughter and trying to convince his younger daughter that she cannot eat macaroni and cheese for every meal.
