Bio & Overview

Summer Scavone, MD, grew up in sunny San Antonio, Texas. She completed her bachelor’s in human biology at University of Texas in Austin and returned to San Antonio for a dual MD/MPH at the UT Health Science Center. Summer spent her third year of medical school on the Texas-Mexico border which influenced her desire to work for underserved/vulnerable populations.

She is a graduate of the Swedish Cherry Hill Family Medicine Residency in Seattle, WA where she fostered her love for full spectrum family medicine, social justice, and care for vulnerable populations. She practiced full spectrum family medicine (inpatient, outpatient, OB) in a rural FQHC in Port Angeles, WA for nearly five years. She then moved to Columbia, South Carolina to complete a fellowship in point of care ultrasound (POCUS) in 2023. She hopes to use her POCUS skills to reduce barriers to care for patients in primary care. Summer moved to Charlottesville for UVA Health and to be closer to her family.

Being at UVA Health is Dr. Scavone’s first foray into academic medicine; she is excited to bring POCUS to family medicine at UVA. Other than POCUS, Summer enjoys procedures, addiction medicine, gender-affirming care, women’s health, prenatal care and partnering with her patients to make their lives better. Outside of medicine, Summer likes spending time with her family/friends, hiking with her dog Renzo, traveling, cooking, and experimenting with wild fermentation.

She was also great. I requested for her to be my primary care Dr but I guess she's not accepting new patients right now. She was very easy to talk to, listened intently, and made me comfortable.

Dr Scavone is the best doctor I have had since 20+ years ago. She is attentive, shows concern, explains things clearly, thorough, just an overall good doctor. Wish there were more like her.
