Bio & Overview

Dr. Timothy Scialla, M.D., grew up in Scranton, PA and attended undergraduate school at University of Scranton, Pennsylvania. After graduating, Summa cum laude, he went on to receive his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania. He moved to Baltimore to complete a residency in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital, serving an additional year as an Assistant Chief of Service on the Osler Medical Service. He completed his Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PGY 6-8) in Pulmonary and Critical Care also at Johns Hopkins Hospital. At the conclusion of his fellowship, Dr. Scialla took a faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida.  He was the Director of the University of Miami Hospital Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. In 2014, he moved to Durham, NC working at Duke University and the Duke University Health System as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care. While at Duke, he was the Medical Director of Duke Asthma Allergy and Airway Center and a Course Director for graduating medical students at Duke University School of Medicine. In 2019, Dr. Scialla joined UVA as an Associate Professor of Medicine with a primary focus to help grow the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care outpatient clinics especially in advanced airway diseases such as severe asthma and COPD.   Dr. Scialla’s research interests are in both undergraduate and graduate medical education and in participating in clinical trial focused on patients with COPD and asthma.   Outside of work, Dr. Scialla enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.  He is a life-long “suffering” Philadelphia sports fan.  He enjoys reading about American History with a particular interest in Presidential and Civil War Trivia.
