Lifesaving Transplant Care and Research
Transplant services include more than just surgery. Evaluation, waiting for the transplant, recovery and follow-up are all part of the process.
Our state-of-the-art transplant center provides comprehensive treatment for patients needing heart, lung, pancreas, kidney, liver and islet cell transplants. All provided by a team of doctors, transplant coordinators, nurses, social workers, financial counselors and more who work with you and your family to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible.
UVA Transplant Center
As the only Comprehensive Transplant Center in Virginia, UVA has more than 40 years of experience. That experience comes with survival rates above the national average for all organ transplant types. And our adult and pediatric patients have access to the latest research and technologies.
Transplant Research at UVA
We're doing research every day to push the boundaries and expand the possibilities for transplant patients. Our research has shaped how other transplant programs around the world care for their patients. Our current NIH-sponsored trials include:
- Research into transplant genomics for biomarkers (indicators of the presence of disease)
- The use of 3D printers to "print," or create, organs for patients
Leading Transplant Doctors
At UVA, you’ll get nationally recognized doctors who hold leadership positions in transplant organizations like the United Network of Organ Sharing and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
