Bio & Overview
Dr. Mahjoub earned his medical degree from the University of Baghdad, where he worked with the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health on a research project in Jordan. Upon graduation, Dr. Mahjoub moved to the United States and completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine in Brooklyn, New York. During his training, he completed multiple clinical rotations at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
During his residency and fellowship, Dr. Mahjoub received multiple awards, including Intern of the Year for Professional Attitude and Behavior, Best Resident of the Year, Teaching Fellow of the Year and served as Chief Fellow during his last year of training. Dr. Mahjoub is fluent in English and Arabic.
Dr. Mahjoub treats patients with a wide variety of hematologic and oncologic disorders. His patients have access to clinical trials and subspecialty care from UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center. He has a special interest in lung cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, prostate cancer, head and neck cancer, lymphoma, and blood disorders.
Dr. Mahjoub moved to Virginia with his wife, who is a pediatrician, and his two boys to be close to family. He enjoys sports, travel, reading and spending time with his kids.

My name is Ali Mahjoub I specialize in hematology and oncology. I work with the UVA at the Culpeper cancer services in Culpepper. I get to know my patient by giving them all the time they need and I take all the time I need to know to know them very well and they know me very well. I make myself available for them in terms of another visit or they need a phone call or a follow up or anything I'm right there for them. Balancing their quality of life and medical care for our patients at the same time trying to, space your personal life from the close relationship with your patients and the emotional changes that happens through their lives is very challenging but, you just get adept to it that patients are human. You have to be available all the time. Practicing in Culpeper is very interesting, getting to know the people of Culpepper is very nice very unique people welcoming people.
