Bio & Overview
Natalie Cain-Wisdom, MD, MPH, is a board certified radiologist with subspecialty practice exclusively in breast imaging. Her clinical activities are centered on the detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.
She completed residency training at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she served as chief resident, and a breast imaging fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Cain-Wisdom is part of a comprehensive breast imaging division that provides state of the art diagnostic and interventional breast services, including digital mammography, 3D mammography, contrast enhanced mammography (CEM), breast ultrasound, breast MRI, image guided core needle biopsy, image guided pre-operative localization and galactography.
Her research interests include improving access to breast cancer care and screening in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), artificial intelligence (AI) in breast imaging in LMICs, healthcare disparities in breast cancer care, and image-guided cryoablation of breast tumors.
In her free time, Cain-Wisdom enjoys riding her horses, Commander and Major Nelson, and exploring the beauties of the greater Charlottesville area with her husband and two daughters.

Meet Breast Radiologist Natalie Cain-Wisdom, MD
Hi, I'm Dr. Cain-Wisdom, and I'm a breast radiologist at UVA Health. I'm a specialist in breast imaging of both men and women. I screen for breast cancer and I also will see patients who come in with clinical complaints, which could be a lump in the breast or in the armpit, or someone coming in with breast pain or other changes. I really enjoy day-to-day conversations with my patients, and discussing with them the best breast cancer screening that may pertain to their situation, whether they're high risk for breast cancer or have, for example, dense breast tissue. A patient should come to UVA Health for their breast care because we offer a highly collaborative approach to breast cancer and non-cancer care here. So, we have weekly multidisciplinary conferences amongst us as the breast radiologist, the breast surgeons, breast medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists to discuss the best treatment, modality, and options for each and every one of our patients. We offer advanced imaging modalities outside of 3D mammogram with tomosynthesis and breast ultrasound, but also to include breast MRI and contrast enhanced mammography in order to detect breast cancer at its earliest stage.
