Bio & Overview

W. Alex Dalrymple, MD, is a movement disorders specialist. He sees patients with Parkinson's disease, tremors, Huntington's disease, dystonia, ataxia, and other problems with movement and coordination.

In addition, he serves as the director of the Adult Neurology Residency Program and associate director of the Movement Disorders Fellowship Program. His research interests include resident education, gait, and quality of life in Parkinson's disease, and disease-modifying therapies in Huntington's disease.

A native of Cary, North Carolina, Dr. Dalrymple holds a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and Spanish from NC State University. He attended medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. There, he met his future wife, Sarah N. Dalrymple, MD, a family medicine doctor at UVA. The pair came to UVA for their residencies and have been here ever since.

The Dalrymples have two sons, Will and John, along with two dogs. Besides spending time with his family, Dr. Dalrymple enjoys attending concerts, traveling, reading, and trying new restaurants.
