Bio & Overview
Dr. David Diduch has practiced orthopaedic surgery at UVA since 1995. His practice focuses on sports medicine, including knee and shoulder reconstruction. This includes arthroscopy, ACL reconstructions, meniscus and cartilage surgery, rotator cuff tears and shoulder instability, patellar instability, as well as the various lumps and bumps from sports. He cares for athletes of all ages, from adolescents through older persons who exercise for fitness. A large part of his time is spent caring for the athletes at UVA where he serves as the head orthopaedic team physician. As part of Dr. Diduch's practice in an academic institution, he is always teaching. Orthopaedic surgery residents, sports medicine fellows and medical students shadow him in the office and assist in surgery.
Dr. Diduch also serves as the vice chair of the department. An academic career also involves research, and numerous clinical trials are always available for interested persons through his office.
Dr. Diduch is married to Lynn and has three sons, all of whom are students at UVA. He loves playing golf with his boys and they also enjoy skiing and fly fishing in Montana.

Dr. David Diduch profile video
Hi, my name is Dr. David Diduch. I'm an orthopedic surgeon here at the University of Virginia. My specialty is sports medicine. A special area of interest for me are people who have knee caps that come out of place. Patella instability is the term, but it's the knee cap that comes out to the side. I'm doing some cutting-edge work there in terms of techniques to fix that. I have six surgeons in the sports medicine division, but we collaborate with our partners in the hand division and the foot and ankle division, so we find the best person to take care of a given problem. We work very well together as a team in terms of who's going to best to take on a problem that a patient has. We're all fellowship-trained in sports medicine, which is an added certification, extra training beyond orthopedic surgery. We are the team physicians for both UVA, which I take care of, and James Madison University and all but one of the high schools in the area. We're really very comfortable and very experienced taking care of athletes at a very high level. If a person's not a high-level athlete, but they're just a recreation athlete, we're going to take care of them exact same way. They're going to get the highest level of care. It's all about figuring out a problem, figuring out how to fix it, and restoring function and alleviating pain. It's been a real joy to be a part of it.
