Meet Psychiatrist Imran Akram, MD
My name is Dr. Imran Akram. I'm an adult and geriatric psychiatrist at UVA Health System. My main goal is when a new patient comes and has an encounter with me, that they see someone who's a good listener, who cares about them, someone who is eager to put together a comprehensive treatment plan that includes not just medication, not just counseling, but all the other areas in their lives that can benefit that particular patient. I see the patient as an individual, but not an individual that I'm going to be seeing alone, but the individual who is part of a society, who's part of a family. That's why I believe in a collaborative approach where I make sure that the family's involved in the care, but I also make sure that any other specialist in our hospital, in our health system, that this patient can benefit from, I consult that service to make sure we can benefit our patient the best. Our department offers a vast variety of services. These services include inpatient service, consultation liaison service, outpatient clinic service. We also provide electroconversive therapy. We provide family and couples counseling. So all in all, UVA provides a very comprehensive psychiatric care to those seeking psych care.
