Bio & Overview
Justin Faul, DPM, is an podiatric surgeon who specializes in treating foot wounds, specifically those resulting from the complications of diabetes. His research interests include the study of advanced modalities in wound care, including hyperbaric oxygen.
For Dr. Faul, pursuing a career in medicine was an idea sparked by childhood experiences. “When I was a kid, my mother worked in a doctor's office and I would go to work with her. I saw how the doctors got to develop close, important relationships with their patients. These experiences showed me the impact that healthcare professionals can have on people.”
Dr. Faul is originally from the Midwest. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he studied kinesiology, and then attended podiatry school at Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago, Illinois. Upon receiving his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine degree, Dr. Faul moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue postgraduate training in diabetic limb salvage at Georgetown University Hospital, as well as orthopedic trauma and reconstruction and pediatric orthopedics at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia.
Throughout his medical training, Dr. Faul traveled extensively, including participating in overseas medical mission trips to Eastern Africa with Physicians for Peace. Early in his career, he also helped the underserved population of northern Arizona on the Navajo Nation by developing a comprehensive podiatry and wound care program for Winslow Indian Health Care Center. As an adjunct professor at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona, he helped train residents and students as part of the First Nations Podiatry Residency Program.
Dr. Faul arrived at UVA Health in December 2023 after almost a decade in private practice.
