Bio & Overview

Tanvir Rizvi, MD, specializes in diagnostic neuroradiology, including all imaging techniques used to assess the brain, spine, head and neck. He is trained in advanced MRI techniques; reads cross-sectional imagery (CT and MR) of the brain, head and neck and spine; and collaborates regularly with colleagues from across UVA Health — from neurology to radiation therapy — to provide the best in multidisciplinary patient care.

Born and raised in Jaipur, India, Rizvi completed a residency in radiology at SMS Medical College in Jaipur before working as an assistant professor of radiology at RNT Medical College in Udaipur, India. He then completed a three-year Doctor of Medicine in Neuroradiology course at one of India’s premier medical institutions, All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, which made him only the second person certified in neuroradiology in the entire country.

Rizvi served as an assistant subspecialty consultant at King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh for six years before coming to UVA, where he completed multiple fellowships, including diagnostic neuroradiology, nuclear medicine and body imaging. Rizvi then left UVA to become an assistant professor of neuroradiology at University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2016, but returned to Charlottesville in 2019 to join the UVA faculty.

Rizvi is married and has two sons. He has been actively involved with the Islamic Society of Central Virginia since 2011 and served on the board of ISCV in 2015. His favorite pastimes are reading and spending leisure time with his family.
