Bio & Overview
Dr. Druzgal joined UVA in 2010. He trained at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center, where he completed both his diagnostic radiology residency ('08) and neuroradiology fellowship ('10). He is originally from Maryland and completed his undergraduate training at the University of Maryland, receiving a BS in Chemistry ('95) and a BS in Biology ('95). Dr. Druzgal completed his graduate training in the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Pennsylvania, receiving his PhD in neurosciences ('01) along with his MD degree.
Dr. Druzgal specializes in diagnostic neuroradiology, including all imaging techniques involving the brain, spine, head and neck. He is a recognized expert in advanced MRI techniques in the brain, particularly as applied to neurodegenerative disorders like traumatic brain injury, dementia, Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. In addition, he is interested in translating cutting edge neuroradiology science into new diagnostic tools to advance patient care.
As part of the American Society of Neuroradiology, he is the co-chairman of the clinical translation of functional and diffusion MRI study group. As part of the American College of Radiology, he sits on the head injury imaging reporting and data system (HI-RADS) committee.

- Dr. Druzgal is the principal investigator of the UVA Functional Neuroradiology Laboratory. The lab uses multi-modal brain MRI to study different aspects of neurodegenerative diseases. He has grant funding to study the effects of mild traumatic brain injury on student athletes. The laboratory also has several ongoing projects studying movement disorders like Parkinson's Disease and essential tremor. His research team includes graduate students, undergraduate students, diagnostic radiology residents, and neuroradiology fellows. The majority of his work is done in collaboration with researchers in other departments at UVA.
