Bio & Overview

Ara Maranian, MD, is a cardiologist who specializes in treating heart disease, including cardiac catheterization and pacemaker implantation and follow-up.

“One of the most important things a physician can do is educate patients on their health, medical issues, and therapies and provide them with what they need to make informed decisions on their healthcare,” he says.

“Many times, there are different ways to manage the same problem in cardiology, and we should be open to finding what works best for each individual.”

Dr. Maranian was born in Boston and grew up in Natick, Massachusetts. From a young age, he was fascinated by human anatomy and physiology and knew he wanted a career that would make a significant difference in his patient’s lives.

He studied biology at Fairfield University and attended medical school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. After medical school, he entered active duty in the Air Force. Dr. Maranian completed his residency and internship in internal medicine at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base, California, and a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

He deployed to Iraq as a critical care air transport physician in 2003–2004 and 2006–2007.

As a new Air Force doctor, Dr. Maranian met his wife, who was an Air Force nurse. They have been married since 2001 and have four children. Dr. Maranian is a diehard fan of all the Boston sports teams. He enjoys outdoor exercise, especially running and biking.

I got dizzy, with rapid, irregular heart rate, and my Doctor immediately contacted the ER that I was having symptoms of AFib. He had already adjusted my meds, so called those in to my pharmacy. He followed through with issuing blood tests. The ER doc then took over. My cardiologist called me the next morning to be I was on the correct new meds. Great Job!!
