Joseph Park, MD, is an associate professor and chief of the Foot and Ankle Davison in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UVA.
Dr. Park graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and earned his medical degree from UVA. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases, followed by a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He joined the UVA orthopedic faculty in 2010.
He is the associate director of the Foot and Ankle Fellowship at UVA and is the team foot and ankle surgeon for UVA Athletics. Dr. Park’s research interests include sports-related injuries to the foot and ankle, tendon reconstruction, ankle replacement, bone grafting for complex arthrodesis procedures and biomechanical properties of orthopedic implants.
Away from the hospital, Dr. Park enjoys soccer and tennis and spending time with his family.

My name is Joseph Park, I'm an orthopedic surgeon here at the University of Virginia. My job involves caring for all types of injuries and deformities to the foot and ankle. We have a high level of specialization within our department and I think it allows us to provide the most cutting-edge care for the things that we're best trained to take care of. One thing I think that's unique to the university is that we're able to collaborate with people across the ground. So we have collaborations with biomedical engineering as well as mechanical engineering, that really helps us to look at how our surgeries affect our patients and ways to improve the way our surgeries are performed. I think as a division we feel very strongly that for each and every problem that we evaluate that you should exhaust all non-operative measures first, meaning that you tried the orthotics and you've tried the bracing and therapy before you undergo surgery. And I think that just goes back to the fact that surgery is a really important thing that I can offer to patients but it's not always the best option. And I think having that honest discussion with patients is really the most important part of our job. But when surgery becomes necessary I enjoy the fact that my surgery, in conjunction with their rehabilitation and following our instructions, that they really can improve their lives substantially.
