The University of Virginia’s Joint Emerging Diseases Initiative team seeks people age 30 years and older with a recent positive COVID test who are experiencing symptoms for a research study. The purpose of the study is to see if re-purposed medications can help people with mild to moderate COVID-19 feel better faster and stay out of the hospital. These medications are FDA approved for use in other illnesses and are being studied for their effectiveness in treating COVID.
You may be eligible for this study if: you have had a positive COVID test in the last 10 days, currently have at least two symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath, aches, chills, headache, etc.) for less than 7 days, and if you have not been hospitalized for COVID within the last 10 days.
Study involves being randomly assigned to take one of the study medications or placebo as prescribed and completing a few short survey’s about your health daily for up to 28 days. Surveys generally take a few minutes and are done online on a secure website. You will not be required to come for in-person visits unless you have worsening symptoms that require you to see a doctor.
Study-related medications are shipped to your home and provided at no cost to you.
