Official Trial Title
The Effects of Foot Rehabilitation And Minimalist Shoes (FRAMES) on Pain and Function in Adults with Plantar Fasciopathy – A Randomized Controlled Trial
Study Description

The UVA Department of Kinesiology seeks adults ages 18 – 55 with plantar fasciitis or heel pain for a research study. The purpose of the study is to investigate if wearing minimalist shoes and performing rehabilitation exercises will be more beneficial in relieving pain compared to only performing rehabilitation exercises.

You may be eligible for this study if you:
- Are 18 – 55 years old and are not pregnant
- Have not had ankle or foot fracture or surgery
- Have not sustained a lower extremity injury in the past 3 months
- Have not had a corticosteroid injection in the last 6 months

The study involves 2 laboratory visits 8 weeks apart (2-3 hours each) to assess pain and function. Each day involves performing rehabilitation exercises (around 10 – 15 minutes) and filling out a short survey. You will also have to wear a Fitbit daily and potentially a pair of minimalist shoes.

Study-related exams and intervention will be provided at no cost.
