A staged, comprehensive investigation of insular neuromodulation for the treatment of treatment-refractory, chronic pain
Study Description

The Department of Neurosurgery seeks adults ages 18-80 with chronic pain for a research study. The purpose of the study is to determine if deep brain stimulation can treat chronic pain effectively and safely.

You may be eligible for this study if:
- You have had severe chronic pain for greater than 6 months
- You have been unable to treat your chronic pain with medications, injections, or other surgeries

This FDA-monitored study involves a screening visit, followed by two brain surgeries and a week-long stay in the hospital, with additional visits at 1 week, 1 month, 4 months, 5 months, and 8 months post-surgery.

All study-related procedures and visits will be paid for by a grant from the NIH.

No additional compensation will be provided.
