Treatment of Breast Fibroadenoma targeted tissue with High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU): A Pivotal Multi Center Prospective Study
Study Description

The Department of Surgery is seeking women ages 18 or older with a breast fibroadenoma (non-cancerous breast lump) for a research study. The purpose of the study is to test an investigational technique for breast lump treatment called HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound). This procedure requires no surgery or incision. The study includes the HIFU procedure, four follow up clinic visits (45 minutes each) with physical exam and ultrasounds (at 2/3 days, 7 days, 6, and 12 months after the procedure),digital photography to assess the cosmetic appearance of the treated breast, and pain/anxiety assessment.

Compensation for study completion is up to $400 for finishing the study ($100 after each of the four required follow up visits). In addition, if you must travel more than 250 miles round trip to return to UVA for your follow up visits, you may receive reimbursement for travel expenses such as mileage, parking, and meals. (Receipts must be submitted for these expenses.)
