As UVA Health's chief medical information officer (CMIO), Michael A. Williams, MD, works to bridge the worlds of clinical practice and information technology, providing clinicians with the digital information they need to elevate the quality and safety of patient care.

Williams has over 18 years of clinical informatics experience and a passion for digital transformation in health care, and for designing Health IT workflows that not only enhance patient care but also reduce clinician stress and burnout. He strongly believes that good customer care and patient engagement are as important as high-quality, evidence-based medical care.

Williams has been with UVA since 2014, leaving his role as regional CMIO at Northwell Health in New York to return to his alma mater UVA. Prior to his role at Northwell Health, he was the CMIO for the Central Ga Health System, now called Atrium Navicent Health. He is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and is double board-certified in pediatrics and clinical informatics.
