Research Study for Women who have Complex Atypical Hyperplasia OR Stage 1a Grade 1 Endometrial Cancer

The UVA Cancer Center seeks women ages 18 and over who have Complex Atypical Hyperplasia OR Stage 1a Grade 1 Endometrial Cancer for a clinical trial.

The purpose of this study is to learn if the Mirena intrauterine device (levonorgestrel IUD), alone or in combination with the immunosuppressant drug, Everolimus, is effective for the treatment of endometrial hyperplasia and/or early-stage endometrial cancer. Disease response and the side effects (good and bad) of the two treatments will be studied as part of this clinical trial.

Patients with advanced epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or peritoneal carcinoma cancers are needed for a study to research a chemo-immunotherapy.

The University of Virginia Cancer Center is conducting a clinical research study for patients who are adults ages 18 and over, and have advanced epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or peritoneal carcinoma cancers. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the combination of an experimental drug (oregovomab) with chemotherapy drugs (paclitaxel and carboplatin) in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or peritoneal carcinoma cancers. The safety and effects of the experimental drug in combination with chemotherapy will be evaluated for this study.

Patients with advanced head and neck cancer are needed for a study to research the combination of an experimental drug and radiation therapy

The University of Virginia Cancer Center is conducting a clinical research study for patients who are adults ages 18 and over, and have advanced head and neck cancer. The purpose of this study to evaluate the combination of an experimental drug (durvalumab) with radiation therapy in patients with advanced head and neck cancer. The safety and effects of the experimental drug combination will be evaluated for this study.

Patients with metastatic breast cancer are needed for a study to research an investigational drug combination involving an immunotherapy and a cellular therapy.

The University of Virginia Cancer Center is conducting a clinical research study for patients who are adults ages 18 and over, and have metastatic breast cancer. The purpose of this study to evaluate an experimental drug combination including an immunotherapy drug (pembrolizumab) and a cellular therapy drug (HER2-BATs) in patients with metastatic breast cancer. The drug dose, safety, and the effects of the cellular therapy drug alone and in combination with the immunotherapy drug will be evaluated for this study.

University of Virginia Department of Neurology is currently looking for people with Parkinson’s Disease with sleep problems for a research study. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is supporting the study.

The purpose of the research study is to learn if Light Therapy reduces sleep problems associated with Parkinson’s Disease and improves quality of life. As part of this study, we will use a number of assessments and questionnaires to determine if Light Therapy improves sleep problems in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.

Study for the use of spironolactone to regulate menses in girls with excess male hormone

UVA Health, Center for Research in Reproduction seeks adolescent girls ages 13-19 who have symptoms of high male hormone for a research study. The purpose of the study is to see if a medication, spironolactone, can normalize ovulation rates in girls with androgen excess. Irregular periods due to problems with ovulation in girls with androgen excess may lead to the development of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Study for adults with fatty liver disease who are having a liver biopsy

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology seeks adults, 18-75, with fatty liver disease for a research study. The purpose of the study is to compare LiverMultiScan, a type of MRI, to liver biopsy.

You may be eligible for this study if you are scheduled for a liver biopsy to evaluate fatty liver disease or NASH.

Study involves one visit to UVA, possibly on the same day of your biopsy. Blood will be drawn and a short MRI will be completed prior to your biopsy.

The study-related MRI and blood work will be provided free of charge.

Reproductive Hormone Studies

UVA Health, Center for Research in Reproduction seeks female volunteers with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), ages 20 - 30 or 40 - 49, for a research study. The purpose of the study is to learn how characteristics of PCOS improve as women with PCOS get older.

You may be eligible for this study if: You have PCOS. Symptoms and signs include irregular menstrual periods, excess hair growth, and high testosterone levels. Participants must not have taken contraceptive pills or hormonal medications for 3 months prior to the study.

UVa Health System Center for Research in Reproduction seeks female volunteers with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), ages 40 to 47, for a research study. The purpose of the study is to learn if metformin is as effective as birth control pills for health-related quality of life.

You may be eligible for this study if: You have PCOS. Symptoms and signs include irregular menstrual periods, excess hair growth, and high testosterone levels. Participants must not have taken contraceptive pills or hormonal medications for 3 months prior to the study.
